The Vinci: A Versatile Protocol Analyzer and Converter

Inspired by Leonardo da Vinci's "Vitruvian Man", this design combines functionality and elegance

THE VINCI's industrial design is inspired by Leonardo da Vinci's illustration "Vitruvian Man", which represents the golden ratio of the human body. The elements are positioned so that they would prolong the lines of the drawn figure and create a perfectly ergonomic shape of the device, convenient to handle every day.

THE VINCI, designed by Denis Orlenok, is a protocol analyzer and converter that offers the highest versatility of physical serial communication interfaces. It is the ideal choice for applications requiring the ability to perform wiring and plausibility checks of serial interface wires and convert physical interfaces from one to another. This makes it invaluable for commissioning engineers, system integrators, and product developers.

The Vinci stands out from other similar devices due to its unique properties and strengths. Made from a lightweight 6-series aluminum alloy, it is strong enough to withstand the harsh environments encountered by professional engineers. The rotation rings on the surface of the product not only add a touch of elegance but also make it more resistant to scratches and small damages.

Measuring at 112 x 24 x 92 mm, THE VINCI is compact and portable, making it easy to carry and use in various settings. Its sleek design and ergonomic shape ensure a comfortable grip, allowing users to handle it with ease.

Functionally, THE VINCI is a valuable tool for monitoring and troubleshooting communication problems between devices. It allows users to monitor what is being transmitted over RS232, RS485, and even fiber optic cables. Additionally, it offers the capability to convert serial interfaces, enabling users to change from RS232 to RS485 or to fiber optic interfaces, among other combinations.

The development of THE VINCI was not without its challenges. The selection of the most suitable material for production and the definition of the right aluminum alloy required careful consideration. The balance between strength and softness was crucial to ensure durability while allowing for productive CNC cutting, surface turning processes, anodizing, and engraving. The turning rings on the surface, depth of engraving, and anodizing were meticulously developed to achieve the desired aesthetic outcome.

THE VINCI was first exhibited at the "iF design" exhibition in Hamburg, Germany, and later at the "iF design" exhibition in Shenzhen, China. It was also showcased at various design exhibitions in Lithuania. The design received the Silver A' Design Award in 2016, recognizing its outstanding expertise, innovation, and technical characteristics.

With its unique design inspired by Leonardo da Vinci's timeless illustration, THE VINCI combines functionality and elegance. It is a versatile tool that meets the needs of professionals in the field of serial communication interfaces, offering convenience, reliability, and style.
